On March 11, 2011, Japan faced one of the most devastating natural disasters in its history. The TÅhoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami took the lives of approximately 19,759 people, left 6,242 injured, and 2,553 missing. Beyond the immediate devastation, the Fukushima nuclear disaster added long-term challenges, forcing evacuations and creating lasting environmental concerns. More than a decade later, the scars of this tragedy remain, not only in Japan but in the hearts of those who remember and honor the victims.

The NPO TER team was joined by Let There Be Light International, Solar Health Uganda, and Shine on Rwanda. These organizations had the opportunity to be on the field with NPO TER, the implementing organization of Shine on Rwanda. Together, they distributed 200 solar lights and visited the homes of beneficiaries, and on the following day, they distributed an additional 50 solar lights while conducting a monitoring exercise to assess the impact of previous distributions.

Medical checkup initiative in Rwanda, launched in partnership with AMDA and NPO-Ter, aims to improve children's health by conducting screenings in schools. The initiative began in Kibirizi District, with support from Kibirizi District Hospital, enabling early detection and treatment of health issues. On October 22, 2024, a team of medical professionals conducted checkups for 452 students at Kibirizi Group Scolaire, identifying conditions such as malnutrition, poor hygiene, dental issues, and fungal infections. The program will continue throughout the academic year, promoting routine health assessments to foster a healthier generation of young scholars.

The JIU & UR Student Exchange Program, held from August 7 to September 6, 2024, fostered intercultural understanding, academic collaboration, and social engagement between students from Josai International University (Japan) and the University of Rwanda. Participants explored each other's histories, cultures, and healthcare systems through presentations, field visits, and discussions. Guest lectures provided insights into diplomacy and development, while immersive visits to hospitals, agricultural projects, and cultural sites deepened students’ knowledge. The program also included cultural activities such as cooking, dance, and community service. Despite language barriers, the exchange successfully strengthened global connections, promoting mutual respect and lifelong friendships.

In Gicumbi district, Miyove sector, Historical marginalized community are getting the seeds support from NPO TER, as we respond to the child nutrition at the ECD Center we think also on the families with children at ECD on how they can achieve self sustainability and caring for their children after school, hence NPO TER is providing the support in agriculture in supporting the parent of children to have food at home. NPO TER is a Non-Governmental Organizational, which operates in Rwanda, it organizes an annual Peace Concert, which aims to promote culture peace in primary education, it also includes culture exchange between Rwanda and Japan as the areas of operations of NPO TER. This peace concert invites different artists like Kesho band, a traditional singer Man Martin, karate,Origami presentation as the Japanese cultural art of making the decorative materials from papers. As an annual event, this year 2022 we have celebrated 60 years of anniversary of coopration between Rwanda and Japan with the topic say “let’s learn from our history to shape our future. The event was celebrated at Monday 15thAugust, 2022 online at our different platforms, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and at Zoom where we hosted different guest from Rwanda and Japan. At this time, we have different performer like a very known Afro singer Man Martin with Kesho band, traditional dance lead by Thierry who is also an artist in drawing, origami and song performance of Umuco Mwiza students and the poem of Keza Brenda all with the one aim of cultivating peace in young and old generations. Not only the artists, but also, we had persons with testimonies; a 1994 genocide against Tutsi at Rwanda side and a Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb at Japan site survivors who told the audiences what they went through and how they have overcomed them. Therefore, they asked the audiences to live in peace with everyone.

On Friday, 1st October 2021, In Gicumbi District Miyove Sector, Nyamiyaga village where reside 27 Families of historical marginalized community composed by 122 members. NPO TER coordinated a Launching ceremony of project with the theme of Independence Support for Poorest Resident for HMPs in partnership with Rotary club Virunga of Kigali and Hobara Rotary club with the great support of Rotary International. This project will last for 3 years in educating and empowering the community with the best practical way of agriculture to improve on quantity and quality of the yield at the end of the season, as the project illustrate the phases, the first will be a demonstration face whereby all members will be trained on how to produce more crops on the small land through the acquired technics from Experts. The project will provide domestic materials such as saucepans, plates, beds and building up stoves, the project will build a Rainwater harvesting system for supporting the Launched project, this will contribute on the improvement on insufficient hygiene which use to be a critical issue in this community. In the remarks, the president of Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga, Suman Alla; was happy for the project and thanked Japan embassy side for their partnership with Rwanda to raise the living standard of vulnerable populations; he welcomed the Ambassador Imai in Rotary club of Kigali Virunga and gave him the sign of Rotary and the message of appreciation. He also thanked Madam President of NPO TER Mrs. Towari Marie Louise for her great contribution in the lives of MIYOVE historical marginalized peoples and he gave the message of appreciation to deliver to member of Hobara Rotary Club named IWABUCHI San. The mayor of Gicumbi district NDAYAMBAJE Felix; thanked all the partners NPO TER and Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga for the project that is coming to help Miyove community as a HMPs community. In addition, he encourages the community to be part of the project for its sustainability, he lastly thanked the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda for tremendous support in Rwandan development, and particularly he thanked ambassador IMAI who came for the project launch. The guest of Honor, ambassador MASAHIRO IMAI of Japan in Rwanda in his speech started thanking very much the local leaders, Rotarians and NPO TER who played a great role in favor of beneficiaries, he said a good relationship of both countries has always been fruitful and the Japan government will continue to support development project through its GGP scheme in benefit people of Rwanda. In 2011,March 11th day there was an explosion of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, there was more deaths due to this explosion. NPO TER as its main office is at Fukushima/Japan organizes an annual holly Mass to pray for the people of Fukushima/Japan who lost their lives in the nuclear explosion of the plant.
