Dr. AKINTIJE SIMBA Calliope
Country Director
Dr. Akintije is a Rwandan Medical Doctor and Global Health Researcher, holding PhD from Nagasaki University, and with experience of more than 10 years in health sector of Rwanda as well as on international health scene. He is currently a visiting researcher of Nagasaki Institute of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University.
Along his studies, Dr. Akintije has acquired different and extensive knowledge with professional certificates in Health programs M&E, Health and Human Rights, Epidemiology and Health Leadership. He has also strong knowledge in international health diplomacy, conflict management, health System Management, health planning, and health project design. He has 12 years’ experience in health care services and 4 years as Director General of Hospital in Rwanda. The spirit of social justice has pushed him to be conversant with non-governmental organizations hence his services in many organizations based in Rwanda, in Uganda, in South Sudan and Japan. In all his duties, communicating his medical knowledge with communities and other stakeholders is a plus. Currently, he is serving as Country Director of NPO TER in Rwanda.
Dr. Akintije has been on different international exchanges and fellowships programs such as at ACTV-Uganda under European Union fellowship; at HURINET-Uganda under FK-Norway fellowship (currently Norecno); in the USA as, International Visitor’s Leadership Program fellow (IVLP); in Benin as African Union Youth Volunteer, among others. {{Dr. Akintije}} is a founder to many local and international initiatives being profit or not for profit like Rwanda-Japan Youth Cooperation (NGO), Nagasaki Universal Health Coverage (Nagasaki-UHC) group, and business startups such as {{StudentMedCare Ltd and Phedex Ltd}}. He sits on boards of various international and national associations such as Rwanda Medical Association and Rwanda Medical and Dental Council, among others. He has attended many conferences where he had to present his research activities through poster or oral presentations, and he got awards such as “Award for Excellence” in The Second Business Plan Competition, Tokyo” among others.
Through his pursuit in government, non-profit and volunteer work,{{ Dr. Akintije}} has grown into a self-driven spirit, innovative, flexible, passionate, and unyielding development professional in multitask shape. His future goal is to be a strong public and Global Health researcher driven by pragmatic spirit to change social life of Rwandan population and the whole Africa in general.
